In 1932 George Blaisdell invented his windproof lighter. He was so impressed by a contempory invention, the zip fastener, that he decided to name his new lighter the Zippo.

Patented in 1936, this robust lighter from Bradford, PA has since become a true American classic with a legacy spanning 8 decades and is still popular among traditionalists and admirers of design. The Zippo lighter has surely become an artform in its own right.
